How do I buy Google eBooks from Harleysville Books?

2. You also need a Google account because your e-books will be stored in Google's servers, or "the cloud." To create your free Google account (even if you don't have or want a G-mail address) click here

How do I read the Google eBooks I bought?
After buying your e-books from our website, you can access and manage your titles from the eLibrary page at HarleysvilleBooks.com. Since the eLibrary page is synced up with the Google cloud, you'll find all your purchases there. To start reading immediately, just click the e-book cover art.

You can also read your Google eBooks on the iPad, iPhone, Sony Reader, Nook, and other devices (except Kindle, a closed proprietary system). See a full list of Adobe-compatible devices here.

To read Google eBooks on your iPad, iPhone, or Android phone, download the free app in the Apple Appstore or Android Market. Once a purchase is complete, you will be directed to download your Google eBooks from your "My Account" tab at HarleysvilleBooks.com, where your e-books can be found on the "My eBooks" tab. From here, you can read in the web-based Google Books reader or on any device with the Google Books app.

Here are the steps for each device:

Google eBooks files will download automatically into your default download location (iPad, Sony Reader, Nook, etc.). Once the Adobe Digital Editions file is downloaded, double-click this file to open in the Adobe Digital Editions reader. The e-book can now be read on a computer through the Adobe Digital Editions reader. If you don't already have the free Adobe Digital Editions software, click here to go to the official download page.


IPad, Iphone, Itouch, Droid + Laptops

  1. Go to www.harleysvillebooks.com.  Find e-books through the site search, either select the eBooks tab on the search results page or use Advanced Search to limit results by Google e-book format.
  2. Add Google eBooks to your cart.
  3. Access a Google Account – most commonly a Google email address – or create one. This step only needs to be done once to sync your Google Library with your Harleysville Books account for future purchases.
  4. Agree to the Google Terms of Services
  5. Purchase the book by entering billing information.
  6. Once complete, download the free Google Books app on your device. Access your library through the Google Books app for enhanced reading (or log into your Harleysville Books account (or create one) to read in web-view from your “My eBooks” tab on your “My Account” page.)
  7. Happy reading! 

To read a Google eBook on your Nook, you will have to connect the Nook to your computer and copy the eBook using the Adobe Digital Editions software. Here is a step-by-step guide.

  1. Install the Adobe Digital Editions software.
    Adobe Digital Editions is available for Windows and Mac, and can be downloaded here. Follow the instructions on this page to install the software on your computer.
  2. Download the Google eBook to your computer.
    You can download a Google eBook by clicking the "download" link on the My eBooks page on this website. You will need to be logged in to our website in order to access this page.
    When you attempt to download your eBook, you may see an error message that the eBook was not found on Google's server. This happens if you are not currently logged in to Google. You can follow the 'Read' link on the My eBooks page to log in, or, click here.
  3. Open the .acsm file in Adobe Digital Editions.
    Your eBook will download as a .acsm file. Locate it on your computer and double-click the file to open it into Adobe Digital Editions. You can also open the file by launching the Adobe Digital Editions program and selecting File > Import Files from the menu.
  4. Create an Adobe ID.
    The first time you open an eBook in Adobe Digital Editions, you will be prompted to create an Adobe ID. It is important that you do not skip this step, or you will not be able to transfer the eBook to your Nook later. This is account is free to create...just follow the steps in the application.
  5. The book appears on your shelf in Adobe Digital Editions.
    If you have successfully completed the first four steps, the eBook you purchased should now be available to read in the Adobe Digital Editions application on your computer. Next, you will need to transfer it to your eReader.
  6. Connect your Nook to your computer
    Use the cable provided with your Nook to connect it to a USB port on your computer. The Nook should appear as an icon in the lower left corner of the Adobe Digital Editions application (underneath your Bookshelves).
  7. Drag the eBook to the Nook icon.
    Simply drag the eBook onto the Nook icon in the lower left to transfer the file to your reader.
